How To Lower P.h.

You can use a chemical, something like "pH up"

Or you could do it naturally, by using peat moss/fibres, or Malasian/Mopani wood.

Or a combination of the two... the chemical will bring it down, and the peat/wood will keep it down. Unless you have a lot of time, then just go with the natural =)

20 gallon high:
3 cardinal tetras
4 guppyy
2 algea eaters
1 black molly
1 sunburst platy
2 albino catfish
and some unidentified eggs

This is your current stocking? the guppies, platy, and molly would much prefer a pH of 8.0 than a pH of 6.0. Whereas the cardinals would like softer more acidic water.

But, here's the real question, how are they doing right now? Healthy? displaying good colors? eating well? If so, there is probably no reason whatsoever to change your pH, if the fish have acclimated to the current one. Changing the pH is a very tricky process, and is you use chemicals a lot of times the pH will bounce up and down, which is far, far worse for your fish than a constant pH that may be a little outside of their 'preferred' range. So, if it is constant now and everyone seems happy, it is more than likely fine.

p.s. I would identify the '2 algae eaters' as accurately as possible, as several algae eaters will seriously outgrow a 20 gallon tank. Something to think about in the future.
