Hey Guys

I have a pair of Cockatoo dwarf cichlids in my tank. They are doing great. But I was just wondering how do you know that they are spawning. I have read that they lay their eggs on caves and rocks, but how do you know before they lay.

Thanks

Sam

Hi, I am no expert, but i have 1 green terror and she has just lay eggs.

Before she lay them she moved all the sand away from the bog wood where she lay the eggs. I had massive mountains of sand at the front of the tank

Hope this helps and Good luck

They will be hanging out constantly together.. flaring at each other, and probably staying in a general area together... that is usually where they will spawn.

Hey vancouver

They are usually inside the cave together and they look really friendly towards each other, do think that is getting ready to spawn?

Thanks

Sam :D

Hi there,

With most of the apsitogramma, when the female is in breeding condition her body colouration will be a bright/vivid yellow.

Andrew

edit > also meant to say that once the female has laid the eggs, expect the male to be evicted from the cave.

Hey a.d.wood

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately she still looks a bit grey :/ Oh well just have to wait Thanks for all your help though.

Time for another question, but this time about Bolivian Rams. Just wanting to know how to sex them really and any pointers on breeding since I have 3 of them in a tank. One is very small and is usuall on its own, guessing it's a female. Then the other 2 are quite large. Not sure if they are male of female. They are usually together but they chase each other around the tank, typical ram behaviour. But one of them has pointed tail like this:

Thanks for your help!

Edit: Didn't take the pic!
