Hi everybody....... (Hi Dr. Nick :D )

After some really useful advice on my last question, here's another.

CO2 levels with a DIY (yeast) setup are going to fluctuate. Right? I've read that having two yeast and sugar bottles and staggering changing the mix will help.

Has anyone got any hints and tips on this? Eg. 1 teaspoon of yeast = about a week's worth of CO2, so start mix 1 off on Monday, start mix 2 on Thursday, change mix 1 on Monday, change mix 2 on Thursday.
How does that sound?

I've got the nutrafin kit arriving soon (my order status has changed to "despatched"!). How would I hook up another mix bottle and what size bottle should i use? (2litre?)

BTW this is for a 24"x12"x12" tank approx 14gal/50l.

The pinned nutrafin article mix should give you enough for a week.

An air tubing T-connector will allow you to run two units into the same diffuser.

I use the Nutrafin kit & I think it is good value for money & works better if you 'mix your own' as the pin above shows you.

I fill the sugar up to the level indicator, and USED to add 1/2 tsp of yeast.
The result was that it bubbled like crazy for about 4 days & then tapered off very quickly to nothing.

I now use 1/4 tsp: The result is a slower more consistent release that will last for over a week. Regarless I change the mix weekly.

Note that the bubble ladder provided with the kit takes time to work - you'll notice a lot of CO2 bubbles simply escaping at first but give it a few days and it will start to work as intended.

Hope this helps,

Andy
