Hi-

Just returned from vacation (never long enough) to find my two tanks (1 mollies and catffish, other betta) doing well--seeing that battery operated auto fish feeders did their job, but now another molly is laying on the floor of the tank, breathing and bouncing upside down, as had the one I had to euthanize before I left! I've tried to feed him some squashed, cooked peas, but didn't seem to be eating them. Should I try antibiotics, or what? Any suggestions are appreciated--W. 8) :fish: :fish:

How many gallons is the tank an what are the exact numbers of fish you have in it at the moment and their types? How long did you go away for and what is your general tank cleaning regime like (water changes, clean filter/substrate etc) in detail? Do you have any water quality test kits for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates? What is the temp in the tank at the moment too and has it dropped or risen at all since you were away?

Could post water stats please? The molly have been overfed by the feeder, or there may be extra waste in the tank that the fish decided not to eat.

Do you have aeration in the tank?

Test the water now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think that you might have to much ammonia. Hurry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It can and will be deadly.

Thanks to you all for the support and advice. Woke up the next morning and the little guy had died. (So glad I didn't have to make that decision.) What was particularly poignant was that our big, fat orange catfish was on top of the dead fish--stretched out the length of the little guy. And the other 2 mollies that were left didn't seem to want to eat for a few hours. They (and the stats) are doing fine.

Love to all,
Wendy
