I got (yet another) tank that I won on ebay. It's a glass tank, no chips or scratches but it has really bad watermarks. It was used as a cichlid fry tank, so the water must have been very hard.

I gave it a good scrub down with warm water and some vinegar. I also used a razor blade to scrape some of the watermarks off. Most of it has gone and it looks so transformed to what it was yesterday, but there is a bit of marks left that I can't shift. Any suggestions on what else to try?

Just to show how bad it was :S

Yesterday:

And this is today. On the picture it looks sparkling clean, but there are still marks to be seen in real.

Try neat vinegar instead of diluting it in water.

I use citric acid to get them off marine tanks.

Rinse with plenty of water when it is clean though.

I used neat vinegar and rubbed gently with a little wire wool! :good:

Thanks, that all sounds good. Will give it a try. Would be a shame if I couldn't get rid of them as the glass itself is in perfect condition and it would be like new.

Thanks again, haven't done anything yet, but got some wire wool, lemon juice and vinegar at the ready. Will start in a bit. (once I get off TFF ;))

I once had to use vinegar for water spots on my car after the texas sun baked in the hard water. Worked perfect. Just used a towel.

Lemon juice and wire wool worked wonders! Thanks all for the suggestions. :good: The vinegar too the main bits off, but the lemon juice did the trick to get it fully off. Got a new-looking tank now :)

It's just washing out in the garden via hose. I just let it run through for a looooong time, is that ok?
