I've had cloudy water in my 90G for about 2 weeks. THis tank houses a pair of JDs and a 6 inch convict. I've tested the water and I have less then .5ppm of nitrite, about 40ppm of nitrate, ph is 7.8, zero ammiona, but for some reason I have very high Alkalinity. What is this and how can I lower it. Because right now it's over 300ppm on my reader scale. I also do weekly water changes. What do you think?

How long have the fish been in for?
and did you cycle the tank before adding them?

Cloudy water can be a sign of a tank that is still cycling and the fact that you are getting any nitrite reading at all also seems to suggest that.

Are you using a liquid water test kit to get your water readings? as they are much more accurate than the dip cards.

If you are absolutely certain that your tank is not cycling still and if your cloudy water is really green like on here:

Then you have an algal bloom.
