Hi

Ive been trying to think of ways to cover up my internal jewel filter to stop fry being sucked in.

I thought about some sort of fine netting but how would i secure it.

Anyone ever done this before? thanks

I've never really had this problem with Platy fry in my Jewul 110l. I guess you could put another stack of foam in to that the top grill is filled from the inside. Not sure how that would affect the flow rate tho.

You could try attaching a fine mesh using some small cable ties or thin wire, not exactly sure how easy or effective it will work.

Why not try a pair of tights! it will still allow the filter to do the job even if a little limited but of course it will only be short term until the fry are a little bigger and more wary!

Oh really, in that case I might be ok then. Did have the same thought about stacking another bit of foam from inside.

Ill get some fine mesh just incase they start getting too close. Thanks for that :good:

good idea, just wondering how id fix it on

I'd take your filter out drop it into some tights and then Knot it at the top aroung the power lead and push any nozzles through the tights (or cut holes) depends on what the filter mounting is like too?

its just the filter is stuck to the glass inside the tank

I never had problems with this- livebearer fry are generally larger, tougher and cleverer than other species of fry. Or maybe I just didn't notice the fry that got sucked up -_-

i used tights on mine, just covered the vents on the bottom, then the dozy fry decided to swim through the little slit on the adjuster, hence couldn't get back out and got chewed by the propeller!! i lost a fair few fry before i realised what they were doing, alot of head scratching trying to work out how they could get stuck in the flow bar!!

The flow slows down daily has the tights get clogged, hence daily tight washing is required
