How To Convert Cold Water Into Tropical For My Fish Tank

hi guys

i hav had a fish tank for a fair while now and i wanted to convert it to a tropical tank.( instead of having goldfish all the time).
my tank is about 80cm by 40cm and has a standard filtering system at the top for cold water fish and a light. but the only problem is if i wanted to convert to a tropical, dont you need to have a heating system? and the problem with that is the fish tank doesnt really have any room for it because that is how it is made, so would i have to by a new filter which incorporates a heater in it?

in other words what extra's do i need for converting my ordinary fish tank into a tropical.

whack a heater in there then its tropical
the tank must have room for a heater it can go vertical or horizontal or diagonal

Wouldnt it just be easier buying a new tank, ones that size are not that expensive. and saves all the fiddling about but a heater should be able to go in your tank they are only small.

thanks for the info. it may look like i might hav to buy a new tank because my filter has stopped working, although the propeller still works. but no water goes through so, that is another problem. but thanks for the tropical fish info.
