How To Clean Sand

can i clean my tank with sand in it the same way that i clean gravel??
with the syphon tube? will it not get sucked up with the water?

i also have gone to sand after only ever using gravel..... you loose a little but if you drain it into a bucket, you can drain the dirty water carefully
without loosing much sand from the bucket... then when you replace your water just help the sand out the bucket back into your tank

I don't think you should, your catfish will kill you because catfish much prefer sand.

Just dont put the siphone too close to the sand swirl it about 4/5" from it and all the muck will swurl up into it within any sand.

hmm well ive gone for a mix of the 2 ive got gravel where the plants are and big patches of sand.

Good idea, compromising is good, just try to make sure the two don't mix.

Would kind of render the sand useless, if being used my catfishes.
