I'm selling a tank, and there is some dried on green spot algae on the tank walls. The tank is dry, and has been so for a good number of months. This algae is hard, and short of rubbing a hole in the glass to get rid of it.

Any ideas what I can do here?

Hmm, Try sparying it HARd with water or a bit of elbow grease won't do a miss :D

Vinegar, mebbe? Other than that, unless the tank is large a soak in hot water should get rid of any gunk left in it.

Use a razorblade scraper the kind used to scrape windows after you paint. Just don't get to close to the silicone sealant.

The razor blade should work fine as long as the tank isn't acrylic. If you're afraid of the blade, you can soak it good in hot water (may have to fill it back up temporarily) and then use a scour pad soaked in vinegar or ammonia (clear/pure, as in cycling type). The razor blade will definitely be the easier way.

Vinegar will do the trick. with a sponge/scourer.

leave a nice wodge of hot wet soapy kitchen roll on it for about ten minutes then try with one of those nice plastic kitchen -washing up scourers...I have experience  of cleaning tanks now :-(

This one (100 Gall) is now spotless and waiting for payday when I can move it indooors and get all the replacment pipe I need for it ....and then set it up and cycle and wait till next months payday to stock it.....but like the others said elbow grease and patience...believe me it will come off....and be carefull with razor blade type scrapers :-( ...and before anyone says anything I was given the tank like this....twas not me letting it get THIS AWFUL

AND DONT FORGET TO RINSE REALLY REALLY WELL IF YOU USE THE SOAPY STUFF :)

A wodge :/ thats a sort of big screwed up lump :D

:D ...Dirty yes but it was worth it.....100 gall tank for free???? ohhh yes it was worth the grief in cleaning the flipping thing :flex:
