when you get a into big tanks with more complex decoration and so on i found its realy hard to catch a specific fish if needed.. i have a 55 gallon and had to drain it and take all my plants out to get all my danios and other fish out.. is there an easyer way to get fish out of your tank without sucha struggle?

Oh I have no idea, but just had to chime in and say that danios are a pain in the butt to catch!!! I swear those little suckers dart all around and then start hiding everywhere they can. God I hope another one of them never gets sick cause I don't wanna have to go through that big headache again!
I also had to take out almost every single plant and decor to catch them.

The biggest thing I've learned is to just be patient with the fish... Jerking the net all around isnt going to slow the fish down. And if the fish is sick that's even worse. The best thing is to just let the net sit there and wait til the fish gets closer. That has worked almost every time for me.

*nods* I'll keep that in mind next time I have to catch them.
Now that you mention it though I do remember my bf did that when we had to catch a danio for the 2nd time. He just let the big net sit in the tank for a little bit and some of them just swam right into it... they were the wrong ones of course, but well... he caught them :p rofl

some fish are just a complete bugger to catch. thing is once you've missed them once or twice they get spooked and then they're even harder to get.

so you should go in calmy the first time but try and be as prescise as possible so you can get them first time.

if you're really struggling then remove all decor, drain the tank to about a third full then there's a lot less places for them to go.

we use two nets as well, have the big one at one end of the tank, then chase the fish into it with the little net :good:

Ahhh the joy of a large net. It used to take me about 30 minutes to catch a Kuhlii loach now 2 minutes... the largest net possible thats easy to coordinate in your tank IMO is best.

yup when my community tank cracked and I had to get the fish out quick i used the big net we have for our oscar, was getting 5/6 fish just by moving it :good:

This is just an area where I am NO good! I know the theory, two nets, move slowly etc etc- but my hands don't seem to be able to do it. My reactions are too slow when it matters, the fish are ten times brighter than me, I just can't do it. I was trying to net portholes (livebearers) at the weekend- and I made a complete mess of it! Had to have every single plant up in the end, it was a nightmare. And I can't look at my planted tank with the same enjoyment again: before I saw the beauties of (pseudo)-nature, now all I see is a nasty tangle for my net to get caught in :grr:
