So this morning I knew my betta was sick but I was torn between Ich and Velvet  . This afternoon after further inspection and a second opinion from my husband. He looks like he's been sprinkled with gold dust...even though the flashlight trick didn't really help. I have some Mardel CopperSafe that treats Ich and Velvet. I was needing to know how to administer this to him since he is in a bowl with no filtration.

The instructions say to use 1 tsp. for 4 gallons of water. Treats water for 1 month. Treat replacement water with CopperSafe.

Sooooo....I know to use half a tsp. since he's in a 2 gal bowl. BUT, do I only treat once? Or do I need to do 50% water changes and add more? How many days do I wait between water changes? Is there anything else I need to know when treating Velvet? :S I can't believe he has velvet! I've never had a fish that's had velvet before.... :/

Do most fish survive this or is this something that's hard to cure?

I need some help please.....

I've used copper with cory fry, I've never owned a betta. For some reason velvet is common with cory fry here, I had been advised by a breeder to get some snails to keep velvet from forming on the bottom of the cory fry tank. If you have one snail you have 100, I don't want snails. The next option was copper.

I add it to the replacement water in the proper concentration until the fry get to about 1/2", then remove it with regular water changes. If it were my fish I would keep up on the usual water changes, adding the proper amount to the replacement water.

How will I know when I get rid of the infection and not over medicate?

I noticed tonight that my other betta is flicking really bad. He'll brush up against a leaf and then he'll go crazy darting around the bowl. He has no visual signs of infection or anything though. He was a rescue and I started treating him with Tetracycline since his fins were tore up pretty bad, then I noticed a fungus (where his skin looked like it was peeling). So, I started him on Maracyn. He's just finished that treatment. What do I need to do for him now?

I'm so discouraged  and so stressed out :shout: !! I love my betta's and neither of them are doing good.

Someone please help me out and give me some much needed advice.
