I have some plants in a small tank that I'd like to add to my larger one. Currently, they are planted in a sandy substrate and are doing well. In the past, I've tried growing plants in gravel, but haven't had any luck, so think the sand might be the best substrate to use. The problem is, my larger tank is gravel. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could add sand to a portion of the tank to plant some plants in, and leave gravel in the majority of the tank?

Thanks

you could easily just take the gravel out, put some sand in, and then put the gravel on top of the sand. but there is no way of containing the sand to a certian area. since it will go where ever it gets moved to. also, you could just put the sand on top of the gravel, and in time it will work it self to the bottom of the tank by falling in the cracks of the gravel. but honestly though, instead of sand you should use something like laterite instead. sand does not have any nutrients in it, and the laterite has many. and this will help with your plant growth.
