I have a rio 400 litre tank with the following :
2 x silver shark @ 6"
7 x silver dollar @ 5"
6 corys
2 x parrot fish @ 5"
1 x red tailed shark @ 3"
1 x oscar @ 8 "
1 x common plec @ 4 "
1 x common plec @ 9 "
1 x catfish @ 5"

Tank does not look over crouded and has ample filtration but just wondering what stocking level im @.
Also i am unsure on the quantity to feed them, i know it should be what they can consume in a few minutes but sometimes they eat really quickly and other times food gets left for a while. Am feeding a mixture of algae wafers, catfish pellets and flakes. Any tips?
thanks

Sorry, but I see several problems with your aquarium. First, the Cory's do not belong in a tank with Oscar's, Parrot Fish, or Red Tail Sharks. What species is your 1 x catfish@ 5"? Your common Pleco's will grow over a 12". Also, you have over 120" of fish (Some of your calculations are off). I am no fan of the one inch rule but your fish are mostly large and messy. I have to say you are WAY OVERSTOCKED. You can make some SMALL progress by moving the Cory's to another setup. Even after removing the Cory's you will still be OVERSTOCKED.

Hi George I'm afraid when you consider the adult size of these fish you'll easily where problems will lie.

2 x silver shark @ 13"
7 x silver dollar @ 8"
6 corys 3" - WILL eventually end up food
2 x parrot fish @ 9" Hit and miss keeping these with Oscars, sometimes ends in tears.
1 x red tailed shark @ 5"
1 x oscar @ 16" once the Oscar reaches maturity he will NOT like all of these fish swimming around him and he Will start eliminating them
1 x common plec @ 18"
1 x common plec @ 18 "
1 x catfish @ 5" ?? could grow to 4 foot for all you know, Do you have a pic so we can id him?

Thank you for replys the catfish is a Synodontis Eupterus do not know a common name for it. Most of the fish in tank were brought at the sizes they currently are. The majority have been in there for 2 years and have grown little from what i can see, besides the silver dollars.. Will all of the fish reach full size and are they slow growers in general. I have a smaller aquarium which i will move corys to . thanks

ok, eupterus (featherfin synodontis) can also get quite big, 12" is max but should get to around 8"

Too be honest I would chuck the flake and buy a good quality Pellet food, This is likely to be one cause why the fish aren't growing as fast as they should, larger fish simply can't bulk up on flake. You can also try them on the occastional few prawns, and cucumber (for the plecs and shark)

The amount of fish you have in the tank is likely to be another factor of why they aren't growing as quickly.

thanks. Are there any pellet foods you would reccommend. Also how do you feed the cucumber and prawns. currently i clip chunks of cucumber to the glass with a suction cup but plecs seem reluctant to eat if they are not on the ground.

I stick a spear of it into the gravel for my ottos and snails, and when I use lettuce, I just weigh it down to the bottom with a small stone or two. If they won't come to the food, just move the food to them.

Hikari Pellets are good, make sure you get the one for american cichlids
