How Should I Go About Making Planted Tank

hey guys i was just woundering how should i go about making a 240 litre jewual rio 240 planted i have two little plants in her now that i had in old tank i dont want it fully planted but i just want it looking nice because i am snakehead is going in there in about 3 weeks and i want it looking nice for him any suggestions


i only have sand on the bottom there is about 2 inchs of it and i also got floresnt lights

What are your watts of lighting per US gallon of water (wpg)? Just read the total wattage off the bulbs and then divide by the volume of the tank in US gallons.

If this is your first time with plants, I would start by trying out undemanding rosette plants and rhizome plants.. for example look at getting one Amazon sword, a few Anubias of any species (which you should attach to wood, stones or ornaments), some Crypts (for example C. wendtii, C. beckettii), maybe a Thai onion, water sprite, some other small and easy swords, line the back with Vallis, Java moss on decoration.. that sort of thing.

Also, you should try some stem plants, although these can be hit and miss sometimes.. thinking along the lines of easy Hygrophila (H. corymbosa, H. difformis, H. polysperma), Cabomba, Lindernia rotundifolia, easy Bacopa.

Also, what is your stocking?

p.s. a solid black background would make the tank look much better

i have no idea what u said at all and i dont know what wattage it is its floresnt light that came with the tank " jewual rio 240" i dont want it overstocked with plants though i jsut wanna make it nice i guess im putting in a snakehead

Look at the light tubes (when they are off), the wattage is written on one end normally.

For simplicity, you could just buy a collection of easy plants, for example from Last Trading Post on eBay (who I know sells only aquatic plants), and some Anubias species and Java moss.

p.s. I just looked at the plant collection and noticed that it's basically all the plants I names except Anubias, Crypts and Java moss which are in it.
