my mum says if i get read of one of my little tanks i can get a reptile heat mat and start breeding bettas(i will do alot of reaserch before i do).
but i wont be able to keep loads of jars. whats the smalest female betta you can breed because a smaller betta will have less fry and my lfs just got some 1 inch female bettas in . or is there another way i can control how many fry i get

There is no real way of controlling how many eggs you get and it makes little difference on the size of the female.

If you're stuck for space.....where will you put the spawning tank and the growout tank. One large reptile heat mat will only fit a maximum of 20 jars.

Dont think there's anyway to get arund cost. Iv tryed to spend as little as i can but i can tell you its all adding up lol. Dont want to know how much iv spent so i dont count

do you think it would be harsh if i let them had them and just kept like 10 of the eggs and threw the rest away or somethink

To be perfectly honest, if you don't have the time, space or money to deal with spawning then don't do any at all. The fish aren't just something to breed, they are living creatures. Treat them as you want to be treated. Would you like someone to do that to you?

Just keeping maybe ten eggs isn't going to guarantee that you get any babies and then the stress of spawning the parents would have been for nothing. If you can't dedicate the time and money to doing it properly then it's probably best you don't.

Well.. I agree with Netty and all the others. If you can't put in the time and money.. Then don't do it at all.
I have a 10 GAL for my 1 month old fry right now.. With a 40GAl grow out tank also.
The cost of food, and necessities add up.

Wait until you're out on your own and have your own job and place to do all of this.

It's just a TON OF WORK!

my mums agreed i can have a 25w heater mat i foung one thats 28 by 44cm would that be too small and the broblems not the time it was just my mum wouldnt let me get more stuff but i just had my birthday so ive got money and in 8 weeks we have 6 weeks of skool so i would have time

What do you want the heatmat for? I'm guessing to put jarred babies on? If so, that wont be anywhere near big enough

Check out our site (in the siggie) There's a breeding section, read it and then see if you can accomodate all thats needed and have the time.

Has Mum also agreed to let you have a 10gal spawning tank and another bigger growout tank?

I don't mean to be so negative but there are alot of things to consider.
