Hi everyone,

Just curious about how old she is. She's about 1 1/4 inches long and the top of the container says "spendens."

She's going into a drum-bowl for now and will be eventually moved into an aquarium with a one or two more fish once she gets a bit bigger and I have a place to put her.

it depends - some of my 8 week old bettas are 1 1/2" but i have purchased 4-5 month old females that are slightly smaller - depends on the genetics of the fish and the feeding regime from conditioning of the spawning pair to what the fry are fed from hatching

If she is in a lfs then most fish are 4-6 months of age when they reach the lfs

Okay, thanks. She was purchased from a chain LFS for just a few dollars. She's blue, active, & cute. Even if she doesn't live that long, she still will live a more dignified life than in a cup at a pet store!

i rescued a TINNNNNNY girlie from an lfs once. she was literally ------ big! and that's why i brought her home( it doesnt hurt that she was the most lovely female ive EVER seen at an lfs around here). how she didnt starve in the cup i have no idea. she couldnt eat pellets as they wouldnt fit in her mouth. it took two months for her to grow large enough to take pellets. in the meantime she got bloodworms and brine shrimp. while you dont often see very small bettas at chain stores, every once in a while you will see a very small one. sad:( she is currently happily living in a sorority of another member on this forum.
cheers

Wow, I would be thrilled to find a betta that tiny. How fun to "raise" her! I'm glad your girly is doing well and found the perfect home :)! They are so sweet, aren't they?

For her (Lily's) first meal yesterday, I gave her a pelet and she couldn't eat it. I let her be since it was her first day (but, at the same time, I was a tad worried she was sick). Today she was given crushed up bloodworms and of course she LOVED those. I'm so happy that she has an appetite! My other Betta is trained to eat from my finger, so I'm hoping to do the same with her. My bigger betta BITES me if I stick my finger at the top of the water!

you can crush the pellet and feed her that way if a whole one cant fit in her mouth

Yeah, that is what I'll do tomorrow. Just gotta figure out how to train her once she's a bit bigger! lol My male betta is so funny about "catching" pelets from me. His action is almost on the verge of attacking the food. It'll be interesting how the female approaches the feedings. I'll be putting my finger in the water right around where her food is so she does a bit of association between the two.
