We bought 4 more male guppies today to keep out other 2 company. They were looking very lonely in there.

After walking out of 2 fish shops because of the state in which they kept their fish, we went to a little independent shop. We knew the guppies were small, but it wasn't until we got them home that we realised how much smaller they were than our other 2.

So, out of interest, do you have any idea of how old the little fish in the foreground on the left is?

Sorry about the picture quality, they're speedy little buggers.

It's really hard if not impossible to tell the age of mature fish. It looks like a healthy specimen, so it's been alive anywhere from 5-6 months to a few years.

Maybe if you could give us a pic of the kids we could tell you how old they are?

Really, that old?

It's just that I'd heard that most pet shops sell them at 4 to 5 months and they were much smaller than any I'd seen in the many fish shops we've visited recently.

Are some breeds just bigger than others?

Could it be a cross between a guppy and an endler?

The endlers I've seen on The Internet haven't got the fan-like tail of the guppy, (as these one have.) However, they do have a black streak on their sides, similar to the endlers.

The photograph I uploaded is actually of the biggest one - The others were just much too fast! My smallest one is about 2cm from nose to the end of his tail, but his colouring and tail is still quite developed.
