It is recommended to do at least a 50% water change weekly. Some people only do 25% WC and some will do 75% water changes. The more water you change out the better. This will be an interesting poll to see how often our members do water changes on their tank(s).

So how often do you do at least a 25% water change.

This poll will close on September29th.

I do a 75-80% on Mondays (tank cleaning day) in all my tanks and my pond and another 50% on Thursday’s (excluding the pond). My bettas get 50% changes every couple of days.

I try to do at least 50% once a week. I maintained this schedule perfectly until my husband retired. Now I have to fit water changes around his plans for trips out, so sometimes it's a day or two longer than once a week.

Half every week. Taking into account the displacement of substrate, appliances and decor it may only be 30 percent. Guess I better draw a little more out.

If you remove water half way down the tank, you would actually be removing slightly more than 50%, due to the displacement of water by decor and substrate. I go down past mid-way.

Do mine is going to mess my schedule up in a couple of years. Great!

This is something I really like about this TFF Forum. Good people are watching your back. I actually did scratch my head a little bit at first but Byron is right. Anyway, a little more water changed out certainly won't hurt. And while I'm thinking about it, I let the tap run quite a while to be sure the house lines are cleared out. She who must be obeyed squawks about this but I'm half deaf and it tickles me to hear her grousing.

It depends....My planted 60g gets a 20g water change weekly which considering the deep sand and rock is around 40%. The 100g stock tank (Colony breeding and growing out swordtails) gets 50% twice a week, The other fry tanks get at least 50% a week, often twice weekly. All of my tanks have fast growing water sprite and duckweed.

(Nearly all of the WELL water I use for water changes is pre-filtered through API Nitra-Zorb [to remove ammonia/nitrates] and an inline carbon filter [to remove impurities]).
