How Often Do I Need To Change The Bio-rings?

Hi

I have had my aquarium (cold water) for about 6 months and change the filter media regularly but am unsure as to whether I should change the bio-rings as have read that they should be left alone as the bacteria on them is essential to the biological filtration. Does this mean they should never be changed?

Any advice would be appreciated

Dont change them at all,they are where your bacterial colonies live. I've had the same ones for 3 years and the guy at the lfs has had his for 8 years!

Yep never change them and never clean them under tap water. If they do start getting a bit clogged up rinse them in water from the tank.
