How Often Do I Clean My External Filter?

i jus read CFC saying he does his external filters every couple of months and that sounds like music to my ears after doing my old filters once a week!


is that right or did i mis read what he said?

For fish that are not excesivly messy, Every 2 months or so sounds right

I do mine bi-monthly has well

I do mine when ever the flow starts to drop a little too much crap in the filter blocking the flow...

Yup, sounds about right, I have two Eheims on my 6ft, I clean them about once a month.

I just clean it out when I notice the water flow begin to get lower than normal. If I haven;t noticed that in a while, then I'll clean it out monthly, but with how much I mess with and plant my tanks, It gets blocked up about four times in three months.

edit: and that's my 10 gallon's stats

my 38 has it going for the same rate though, but will probably do more once i rescape it thursday 8)
