Recently, the last remaining guppy gave birth in my pond, and there are about 20 left that weren't eaten by the goldfish. I scooped them up and put them into 10 to a ice cream container (2L) with their pond water. I read the faq articles but it seemed to say a full tank, however i don't think this is a full number of fry.

Is this enough space for them (obviously they will grow), or do they need more? There is no air stones etc, just a container.

thanks

You will need a 10 gallon tank, with either a sponge filter, internal filter, or HOB( Hang on Back) filter. They need to have a beneficial bacteria colony to survive.

do you think there is already beneficial bacteria in the water from the pond? the fish seem quite large maybe 5mm+ so i'm guessing they've survived up until the introduction of 3 goldfish yesterday.

my plan is once they grow enough to put them back into the pond (once they are fast enough to evade the goldfish that is :hyper: )

problem is that I don't have a 10 gallon tank any more, i sold all my tanks etc a while ago. can daily water changes from the pond ensure that they'll be ok?

on a side note, i put one from a pet store in with some wild ones and this is where they have come from. do you think that the gray dull color of the wild ones will be dominant over the nicer color of their mom / grandma (i can't remember).

A tub is fine for a few days and many people do this to start off with.
They will need something more though to be able to grow, but for now do daily water changes till you can find something better.

Depending on what other fish you have they can go back quite quickly with mollies, given 10 days they be fine with mollies, but if you have other fish then these may eat them still. once their over 1cm they should be fine with most other fish, this should take 2-6 weeks all depending on what your feeding.
