I have a 10 gallon tank and I am gonna buy some sand I think. How much do I need to get?

Depends. If your planning to plant live plants, i would recomend about 2-3 inches, but if it is for decorative purposes only, then about an inch would do.

Some fish do like to dig in the sand, especially the cichlids, yet a 10 gallon is to small for them anyways. If you had any substrate manipulating fish, then i would put about 2-3 inches as well.

I have 3 guppies
2 orange fish
a zebra
2 painted glass fish
2 little corys
and 3 red cherry shrimp in it

I mainly want it for the shrimp, They're really hard to see in the substrate I have now.

So what's the rule 1 pound per gallon, 2 pounds per gallon. How many pounds do I need?

I like DSB's over TSB's because it helps anchor down plants and my fish use it to dig. But if you don't really need it then theres no need to have one. A TSB would work just fine :good:

Find out how thick you want your sand. Then you can find out how much volume that takes up (LWH). If you can somehow figure out the mass density of sand, you can find out how many pounds or kg you need.

If you are going to us it in place of gravel then make it about as deep as your gravel was. About 2 inches. I have a 55 gallon and had 55 pound of gravel in it which is usally the general rule one pound per gallon which will eqaul about 2 inchs. However I converted over to sand today which is about two incs thick with one slop which is thicker, and it took about 110 pounds.
