i have a pleco in my 10 gal. right now. he hasnt grown much since i got him a month ago.(i guess hes a commom pleco) how big will he get. i am up grading to a larger tank, i was thinking somewhere along the means of a 55 or 75 gal. what is the min. tank size he needs when he is fully grown

common plecos are usually smaller then others...most places say they can get anywhere from 5-10 inches...once it starts growing its going to obviouslly get to big for your 10 gallon. if its not a common pleco then its going to get huge...not sure what size tank they need though but he is definatlly going to be too big for the 10 gallon

HUH???

Common plecs are known for getting bigger than most plecs and they are known to be 10-15" and often bigger.

There's no way a healthy common plec would grow to 5". If that was the case it would solve a lot of people on here's problems.

:dunno:

well then my lfs lied to me because they told me their common plecos grow from 5'' to about 10'' and now im happy i put off on getting one

dont i feel like an idiot now :*)

You shouldn't. LFS are known to often be like that, which is why there's so many people with common plecs and nowhere to house them.

I saw some in my lfs today and they are so cute, but I am gald I know what monsters they can turn into (nice monsters obviously!!).

I really like plecs but not the bigger ones even though I have a pretty big tank. I stick to smaller ones. I don't go for anything that will get bigger than 5".

We are all learning, don't be embaressed.

I second going for the 75g. That sounds like about the right minimum tank size for a fullgrown common pleco.
