ok im not a really "knowledgeable" fish tank guy. i know enough to keep things running.

anyways i wanna overstock a cichlid tank and i need to know how much is enough for "over stocked" also would you descripe how to tell what the different sizes mean... ie whats the difference between 2400cc and 3200cc(or whatever they mesure stuff by) also how do i tell what my overflow now is?

my tank is a 40gal breeder(i forget the demensions but the footprint is huge)

i wanna have demasoni and yellow labs, and maybey that blue crab thats in another thread :) (that looks sweet) anyways yeah tell me whats what

p.s this tank is set up and ready and allrdy cycled... its been ready for like 6 months, with a few old buddies(goldfish) to run it

generally speaking I'd say just go for the best filtration you can afford. filters should say on them how many gallon tanks they are suitable for. I'd work it out proportionally to how overstocked you'r gonna be. so say it's a 20g tank, the 'ideal' stocking would be 20" of fish, if you had 30" of fish in you'd need a filter than can do 30g worth of tank. work out your stocking and just how full the tanks gonna be, then you'll know how many g's you have to cover, have that as you minimum, go a bit over if you can :good:

ok but say the fish are 2" now but will be 4" when adult... i should use the adult size right?

also does anyone know any GOOD african cichlid dealers around pittsburgh pa/ohio i was trying to get um off of http://alloddballaquatics.com/ since hes near my house(like 1 1/2 hours) but he wont answer his emails...

yeah absolutely, always work it out on adult size, just means you'll be well over filtered to start but then you've plenty of time for a really good filter bacteria colony to mature in time for when the bio load starts going up when your fish grow up :)

I would at least double what you need for a 40g so filter as if it was a 80g

The labs will reach about 5" when fully grow.

The deminosi are very territorial fish normally only to be kept as a single fish or large group about 12 so i would consider changing to another cichlid.

ive heard of alot of people on here mixing these too... + i love the demasoni so id change the yellow lab first... but i still need a damn breeder....
