Righht, my tank in the bedroom is going :( so its going to be dead boring in here without the sound of my pumps.
I have an odly sized 6 Gallon tank outside, i remember rightly 2ft by 8" by 8" only problem with it is the lid has no light, and when i went to get a quote for a lid if i could even find one it was cheaper to buy a new tank LOL.

I know this should kind of be in the catfish section... but i think its also a general question too?
I have a weird love for Oto's! i have no idea why... Just wondering would a school of Oto's ONLY be ok in the fish tank with limited light, just what is emited from the sun and probably a spot light (the desk light thingys).

The only things in the tank will be substrate and plants, just wondering if it's possible?

Yeah, that's poosible, I have planted tanks up to 8g running of desk lamps, I use pieces of glass as lids on small tanks.

Sounds like a cool idea.

I supose the advantage with the tank is it does have lots of space length ways, i do have the clearseal lid with it, maybe i could MOD it somehow for my desk lamp. Thing i like with small tanks, one bucket full of water and you've practically done a 100% water change LOL. Compared to running round the house with about 20 buckets of water LOL.

Just an idea, you could cut a hole in the clearseal hood and put the lamp in that hole, would need the lamp water proofed some how like a piece of plastic infront of it.

Haha exactly my plan! WEIRD.

I know what its like though, the 6gal will end up being my 15gallon tank.

When i get outa bed tomorrow, im guna clean the tank out, measure everything up like heater, filter etc and see how much space im going to have left to see if this will be plausable.

Currently im thinking black thin gravel, or possibly sand. 50watt heater *yikes!* and my fluval 1 filter, or rena filstar, i think my fluval 2+ will take over let alone fit! lol.

Yeah i'll send you a PM about 3-4pm ish probably about the tank BTW.

I use a fluval 2+ on my 8g, 18"x10"x10", though a fluval 1+ would probably be ok.

Did you get your black gravel from 'Aquatic Habitat'? Just wondering as I may want some.

Yeah, bought a 5kg bag from there for my 37 gal. i want some more, its really nice.

Arcadia do a 15w pymgy light with reflector that should be good for planted tanks. just neds to be screwed into the hood, no rocket science involved.

No, it's not that. I can't seem to find any info on it, which is odd, but I took a picture of mine a while back so I'll see if I can find that.

I got mine from Pets@Home, seem to be one of the only retailers who sell them, which is odd, but it's a small high wattage light and not too expensive (especially the bulbs, any suitable pymgy bulb will do, you don't need the expensive Arcadia ones). It goes for about £10.99.

Ok thanks mate, I'm getting all excited about starting up this new tank already (for godsake!, dont even have my 37g fully setup yet).

Very smart, looks like a good investment! (to image)

I guna post a topic in forsale section, but may as well say here too:
