Hey!
Possibly gone slighty overkill on my 33g...it has a 42x (theoretical) complete tank turnovers per hour..is this too much  ?
Josh

Nope not at all, but it also depends on what type of set up.

Having high turnover rate stops crap settleing, helps prevent cyano. Alows you to keep SPS corals if params and lighting are coreect.
I had well over 70x in my old tank at one point. One thing to think about though, LPS corals dont do so great in areas of really high flow so you may need to move them around a bit til they find somewhere that suits them. Also some fish dont do so well in huge amounts of flow e.g boxfish. Stuff like clowns and most other common marine fish are strong swimmers though.

Out of interest how many pumps is this 42X from?

in my Rio 125 i have

K1 1500lph
K2 2300lph
skimmer 280LPH
another powerhead 600 LPH for my PO4 remover and over flow fuge/ surface skimmer

so thats 37x turn over

Hey Ben, Thanks for the reply :) that's good that it's not too much, I didn't want a mini tsunami going on inside of the tank! the flow comes from:
2 x K2 @ 2300lph
skimmer is 120lph
680lph from the external
so thats 5400lph/125 = 43.2x turnover

I currently have one powerhead at each end, pointing at the opposite end of the LR, is that what I want to be aiming for? It's nearly time I splashed out on a lighting updrade  here comes the big bill lol!

that will be fine i think, koralias dont have really consentrated flow anyway, they send it out in all directions. You havent just got one stream blasting 5400L/H everywhere.

And don't forget, propeller-style powerheads like Koralias or Tunze Streams use exceptionally little electricity. I think the K2 is like 9 watts... Pfft, your cable TV box probably uses more energy idle...

43X an hour is nothing. I have 80X and it still does not seem like much, heck the Organ Pipe is only happy when both pumps (72X of the 80X) are blasting it directly

^^Recomended minimum for LPS and Soft coral species on a reef. Fine for FOWLR also. Not enough if SPS take your fancy though...

All the best

Who you talkin about truck? me? if so then yeah I know :) gunna look into one of those arcadia luminaires or something, only problem is my tank has a bloody surround made outa plastic all round the top that the ligh bar and condensation flaps sit on too and I think those luminair things attach to the glass when I cant get to :(

Hmm I'll have to take a better look at it!
