hi everyone i was wondering what kind to get and how much a baby frontosa would cost i want a small one to raise up and my pet guy said when he gets big he will give more money for it i want to know how much to pay for one and how much they are worth in the long run.

thanks

like I said in your other thread, you are better off mowing yards or serving drinks to make money then waiting for fish to take years to grow.
even people with huge operations (rows and rows of tanks) still barely make enough money to come out ahead.
not to mention, frontosa thrive in colonies (5 or more) not just one by it's self.

agreed,

frontosa should be kept in nothing less then a 125 gallon 6 foot long tank if kept in a colony, if kept alone i would say a 75 gallon minimum for a small one till it gets 7", they should not be kept alone thoughand frontosa can get very expensive, cheapest i have seen a juvinile one is around $75cnd highest ive seen for a juvi is almost $150, it all depends on what type of frontosa it is.

my fish guy has them for sale for 18.99 they have 6 bands on them is that a good price and will a male have that giant head when its bigger i have a 150 gallon tank so dont worry about them being alone i will get 4 of them 1 male and 3 females what kind of frontosa is the best one

Instead of just jumping in (no pun intended) to frontosa why not find out as much information as you can.
the 6 bands as you call them are known as Burundi.. Cyphotilapia sp. "North" (Burundi)
run a search on them and see if thisis REALLY what you want to get into, their a long term fish. They grow slow, they sometimes have special dietary needs, they can go belly up with out notice, known as "Front Float" in some circles.
when and IF they spawn it isnt so easy getting a female to hold to term much less getting the eggs from her in time to incubate them properly.

btw. 18.99 is WAY over priced. I've seen them go for 7-10 dollars. on the whole, burundi are considered the middle to lower class of the frontosa group. dont mean much to me though, I love them all the same.
