I'm only wondering because after everything between new meds, test kits, special foods, decor, filters pumps and heaters really starts to add up. Im only wonder at the point it was set up and stable for more than a month. I'm not counting food

currenlty 1 US dollar = 0.56 pounds

my tank took about 3 months to be stable for at least a month,
The 20g tank, 1 penguin 150, and gravel were a gift
i've spent
60 dollars on mardel test strips,
30 dollars on a master test kit,
26 dollars on the heater,
30 dollars on a second power filter,
8 dollars on fake plants,
50 dollars on decor,
12 dollars on live plants
3 dollars on a temp gauge,
40 dollars on meds and water conditioners.
20 dollars on replacement filters
20 dollars on airstone pump and hose and about
40 dollars on fish.

this brings to ta total of ching ching
$309.00 ( a rough estimate anyways)
having an aquarium running the way you want
priceless.

from the UK - so id would be £'s...

It also assumes that you only have one tank... we have 4 running at the moment (11 total)

Tank 1-

tank-70
stand-40
gravel-5
background-5

and roughly 100 worth of fish

tank 2-
1000- tank
400-stand
20-gravel
60-decor
and hundreds of pounds worth of fish

tank 3

50p-tank
12-stand
5-gravel

all fish two escued goldfish £2 each

about
20 worth of meds
and 20 worth of food
and still counting

I payed for my fish, everything else was free from my neighbor who was throwing his 55 setup in the trash.

This is the first time I've added it all up, not wanting to give my husband an exact answer to : "How much did this tank cost altogether?!" ...

I went over the $900 mark in setting up my last tank, that does not include any meds, water treatment chemicals, fish (another $100+), or food. Money worth having spent, IMHO.

My most expensive tank is a 75g Mbuna setup. It cost maybe $700 (plus fish) but the price tag is still mounting. :S Right now I've got the following equipment and fish in it:

2 Aquaclear 110 filters (500gph each)
2 Maxijet 900 powerheads (300 gph each I think)
Double strip 4' florescent light fixture
Glass hood
2 Ebo Jager 150 watt heaters
100 lbs of sand
Styrofoam and Cement for making custom rock background
75 gallon aquarium
Stand (mostly free, as it is made of spare wood and wafer board from around the farm)
Silicone for rock background

And then for fish

4 Acei Cichlids
5 Rusty Cichlids
2 Bristle nose catfish
6 Yellow Labs
6 Saulosi Cichlids
4 Cuckoo cats

But all in all it's been worth every penny  : Here's a couple of pictures of it I took just now.

Air stone and air pump 20 dollars
decorations 4 dollars
10 anacharis plants 6 dollars

total $155 ish

man you ask me how much I spend I can tell you I dont remember lol every since the hobby begin I have keep spending money on med(due to newbieness) and also buying expansive fish with careless water change all die. I would say I spend over 2500 dollar over a 7years of tropical fish keeping

well this is a fun hobby, but its definately one of the most expensive i have heard of, i have two diferent tanks, a 20 gal, and a 25 gall. if i didnt work at a pet store i would have spent $100's more on my setup's

so far its cost me 481.25$ american dollars, although i have 40 gal. filters (topfin) on both my tanks so it keeps it extra clean, im trying to grow algea, so i can feed my snails and pacostimists when i get them tomorow, so i will turn off my air pumps and filters, and just leave the light and heater going...... all day and all night.... well not that long, but it will hopefully sprout soon.... here are my wonderful hopeful tanks :kana:

The most I've spent is around $700 setting up a 65 in the living room. Built the stand & hood, most of the money got soaked up by the tank itself & the 2026.

Building a rack for a pair of 20's set me back around $85, a rack with a 55 on the bottom & 2 20's on the top is closer to $200. I'm guessing the whole fishroom set me back close to the same as I spent doing the 65.

Build stuff yourself, find used equipment, & order new stuff online. You can get by pretty cheap that way.

It has been in the range of $50 for each of my 5 gallons, $100 for the 10 gallons (not counting the fry tanks), about $300 for the 29 gallon (well-planted,) and about $700-800 for the 80 gallon. I don't even want to think about the amount of money I've really spent on these things over the years!

I laid down an uderlayer of regular sheet Styrofoam (I believe it was an 8'x2'x3/4" sheet) cut out into the various shapes of the rock I wanted to use, and then smoothed with a heat gun. Then I laid down three layers of concrete on top of it, on the final layer using red cement pigment to give it color. I then let it cure for several weeks while other things were happening for the tank. Here's the link the DIY article where I got most of the info from.
The only disadvantage is that with the Styrofoam, the rocks are still very buoyant, and have come unstuck several times, in the picture I posted, a rock is missing from the upper right-hand corner of the tank (would be behind the plant). Next time I do this I’m using twice as much silicone. :S

Wow, lucky you! That is awesome. I got a free 20g from a friend and thought I was pretty lucky.

I decided from the beginning not to count what I spent on fish, it was too much like having to face an obsession or something. :D

If I had to hazard a guess, it would be upwards of $500-$700 easy.
