Can anyone tell me how many KG's or pounds or anything would be required for a 4x1.5 Tank?
or how you would work it out?

Thanks

If you are purcasing gravel get a little more than needed, I would say about 8 lbs or so, you might not need that much or you may need more as I don't know all the dimensions of the tank. You may need 10 lbs depending on all of the dimensions. I would go with what you seem appropriate.

Do you mean 8lbs or 80lbs?

Dimensions of tank are 4x1.5' as was written in my first post.

I went and ordered 30Kgs of gravel today, probably more than i need, but id rather be safe

Well it depends what kind of filter you have. If you have a filter that hangs on the back of the tank, technically you dont really need gravel, its just for show. But the "idiots" at the lfs's say about 1 pound per gallon which is way too much. Enough gravel to cover 1/4 to a 1/2 inch does well.

You could work it out by working out the density of the gravel (Mass divided by volume) and finding out how many litres/gallons of gravel you would need. 4x1.5x2" = 27Lt (6.75 g). Get a one litre conainer of gravel and weigh it and then get 27x that weight. Or more or less depending on how much gravel you like. My gravel weighs about 1.5 kg per litre so I think you would need about 40kg to get a 2" cover. There might be an easier way but I am not sure. So I think your 30kg will get a cover of 1.5". I hope I helped not hindered.

I quite like having a good amout of gravel, it gives me something to hold my plants down and I can put in contours so it doesn't look flat. The "idiots" at my lfs are acutually quite bright and helpful and hold degrees in biology and show a genuine intrest in making their tanks look good and careing for their fish. Benificial bacteria live in gravel as well as the filter do they not?
