How much filtration?

Hi there! I am planning on adding a 29 gallon (US) tropical community tank to my den; it will be the only tank in the house. I have been doing a lot of interesting reading and learning. I will stick to 'hearty' schooling fish for now. I have read that a good guildeline for filtration is 10gal/hour per gallon of water. I am looking at using either an Emperor 280 or 400. Would the 400's flow be overkill or bothersome to the schooling fish?

Thanks!

Edit: Oops! Please disregard the question, I will post it in the hardware forum. Sorry!

:hi: to the forum.

That's ok. You would have gotten the help here. :D

I just want to say that you should have at least one quarantine tank. if your fish get sick and you only have the one tank, the disease(s) would get worse and spread.

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't thought to plan for one, but I see your point. I think I can manage that.
Thanks again! :D

A quarantine tank or spare tank is always a good idea.

A quarantine tank or spare tank, is almost a must. I regret not having when i started my tank. :(

Anyway welcome to the forum

Thanks all for the warm welcome! :D
Alaska: not much of a story. Bruce was my favorite uncle, and unrelated to that in any way: many years ago when I was in college I used to keep a tropical freshwater tank. More often than not it was sadly neglected and had 'old tank syndrome'. Being older and more responsible now I believe that I am capable of keeping fish happy, and I vow to do so. I have been doing a lot of great reading (I understand fishless cycling!) and I think being a member of this board will help me enjoy the hobby and do a better job!

Thanks again!
