Hi

could anyone give me a rough idea how much bicarbonate of soda to put in to raise PH from 7.0 up to 8.2ish, in a 125 tank, which is what I understand is 'best' for fishless cycling ?

I will of course test once done, but am trying to avoid lots of tests.....

a pinch, 1/2 teaspoon, 1 teaspoon, 1 tablespoon ?

Many thanks

Claire

A tea spoon for every 10 gallons I find to work, if it's still not high enough, adjust accordingly.

Hi thanks for the quick response !

I'm guessing a UK gallon ?

So, 125 litres = 27 gallons so approx 2.7 teaspoons. So I'll start with 2 teaspoons and test?

Thanks so much !

Teaspoon every 5 gallon normally. Bicarb will max out at 8.2 so then you would just top up with water changes.

cheers

To raise the KH without raising the GH, add sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO[sub]3[/sub]), commonly known as baking soda. 1/2 teaspoon per 100 Liters raises the KH by about 1 dH. Sodium bicarbonate drives the pH towards an equilibrium value of 8.2.
