How much are them bubble curtains or whatever you call them? Them things that have suction pads and stick to the glass and I assume they are attached to an air pump? How much would one cost for the back of a 30" tank?
Thanks alot,
Neal :good: :good: :good:

or make your own! take the required length of tubing, bung the end up with some sealant/silicone, then use a hot pin to make holes every few cm's. i used to have a home made one in my tank, it looks very good. i prefer to make my own because i can ditermine the size of the hole, and thus, the size of the bubbles coming up!

Hmm good idea, I don't have silicone or anything so will look for something I have around the house and ask here if it's safe to use. But also, how will I be able to stick it to the tank though? That's the only problem. It would cost me more in suckers than it would to buy a new one probably! Also I have an airpump with an airstone that I planned to put in my 3 Gallon, but I don't think i'll be doing anything with that tbh, maybe just a plant experiment tank or something...
Thanks,
Neal :good: :good: :good:

PS- Very good idea about a DIY one btw! :hyper:

hmm...what subtrate do you have? i know im my dads tank he has half an inch of big gravel so we buried the tube under that along the back of the tank. everyone feel free to correct me, but would blue-tac be any good for pluging the end up?

you can improvise. buy some small pvc pipe around the diameter of an undergravel filter tube. then, poke holes in it, lay it flat, get some tube connecters and connect it.

or if thats too hard, just get a bubble wand and lay it flat on the bottom of your aquarium (bubble wands are those blue things with suction cups that you can buy at your LFs.. not those things that come with bottles of bubbles that you played with as a kid)

Hi, I just bought an airpump,25 feet of tubing (in case I want to add things later) a gizmo to stop the water syphoning up into the pump and an airstone. It cost me about £22 from Wilsons. If I had bought an air curtain instead of the airstone it wouldn't have been much difference in price. I haven't set mine up yet as although the airpump is best situated above the height of the tank the flex is not long enough! I will have to plug in yet another extension cord. :grr:

I bought a tank, with an undergravel filter with a pump + airstone from Wilkinsons for £22. Looks like you got ripped mate.

So looks like they are about £7ish , and it won't be much for an airpump, so i'll have a look in my LFS for some, I know I have seen one in their display tank.

Thanks,

Hi, I should have looked on ebay! Trouble is I am impatient, credit card in hand, brain left at home.... :fun:

I got a 30 gal air pump (whisper) and about 6 meters of tubing, together with the bubble maker thingy that convered the whole back of my 10 gal for about 20 US dollars. Thats pretty cheap, and it works really good. ( I got the stuff at Wal-Mart). I got a 30 gal pump so that it can pump air through the whole bubble wand thing, and not only half of it or less.

Any info you oculd give me about the Gizmo? I've not enough hose and pumps and stuff, and have tried tieing a knot in the hose and or using one of those metal clips found at offices, but nothing I have seems to help with the water backflowing up my tubes, so any info would be helpful.

Hi, the gizmo is called a "check-valve/ air-filter". It's made by Penn Plax. I bought it from Wilson's (the assistant suggested it). It has precise instructions on the back of the packaging. HTH. :) Your sig doesn't give your location. I am in th UK but Penn Plax is an American company so it should be available in the US too.

i bought a ubbler that fit my entire tank with a small minute air pump to power it and it only cost me 10$ im sure u could go a few inches smaller wich would be cheaper but i had to take it out because bubblers with slatwater make messes.
