I'm returning to the hobby after about 15 years (Long story!) and I'm hoping to set up a freshwater tropical aquarium, on a South American/Amazon type of theme. The tank I aim to use is a Juwel Lido 120, capacity 120 litres, and measuring 61 x 41 x 58 cm. After planting and maturing, I hope to have a couple of Corydoras cats, a couple of Rams, and some Angels and Neons or Cardinals. My question is, how many of each would work best for this set-up?

not a big expert at the cats, but if your talking about ramhorn snails and the small neons, those shouldn't take up much room really, prolly get a small school of the neons maby? if there giant ramhorns, i wouldn't get too many, they can have babies, trust me, lol.

good choice . Cardinals are a fantastic fish, especially if you go down the planted tank route. A shoal of them would look fantastic. Your tank's about 24 UK gal. Recommended stocking levels are up to 1" (2.5 cm) per gal (possibly up to 2" per gal depending on type of fish, filtration, etc.). Growing to about 3-4 cm, you could have 15 or so no probs. with room left for few small corys (they are happier in small groups of 4+). Not so sure about the angels - lots of people would keep them in a tank this size, but I would say its the lower limit for them (and they'll make the tank look smaller than it is). Cardinals need quite soft water & good water quality to do really well - (I had 20 in a 90 cm tank with kH2, gH3 and they were stunning).

everything sounds fine to me, except for the angels. that tank's a bit small to have angels along with every thing else, plus the angels are likely to eat the neons/cardinals or at least attempt it.

how about this:
--5 to 7 cory cats
--1 pair of rams
--15 neons or 15 cardinals or 15 glowlights or 15 of any tetra/rasbora that stays about 1"

obviously don't add them all at once unless you fishless cycle it.

Thanks very much for the suggestions and advice, folks! I'll keep you posted on how I get on, and if all goes well, I'll put up some pics of my tank when I'm all set up! :)
