Hey peeps, I have a couple of cherry shrimp and finally going to start the breeding to use as food source for the large puff (I know I am mean loL). I have a 96 litre set up with lots of live plants and mass of java moss, heated, lighted and filtered. The other occupants will be some bumblebee gobies, I am not sure how prolific eaters they are, but how many to get to try and get loads of cherry shrimp spawning? Also I know the shrimp eat veggies, but I mainly have bottom food pellets, flake and some shrimp pellets, is this good?

They should do fine on prepared food. Just make sure that the young have a place to shelter. Young shrimp are extremely tiny and just about anything will like to eat them. I'm not quite sure about them as a food source for a puffer. I don't doubt his ability it crush them, shrimp are really fast though...

:) Thanks very much, I have a ton of java moss and balls about so hopefully that will help them hide. Great on the prepared food :good: Have you ever seen a hungry puffer? When they want food they get it! Thanks so much

As long as you have both male and female shrimps and in the conditions right, they will breed like mad  10 will be a good number to ensure you have both sexes. Food-wise, you can feed them algae wafers, flakes, pellets, frozen bloodworms, brine shrimps, boiled organic veggies, etc... They are not too fussy really but obviously more vegetation content is prefered.

And yes, puffers are fast when they set eyes on their prey, large or small
