How many platys can I put in a 5.5 gallon tank? I am reading more and more about fish.. I have to admit.. that I just basically went out and bought the tank and put fish in it.. and added to it.. as of right now.. I have 4 platies in it and a betta. I am starting to think that I over crowded it?? Plus I have the babies, which I have homes for already. I am going to be buying a 10 gallon tank when I go into the city on the 18th.. but will my fish be ok until then??

Should I move my betta to the 1 gallon tank?? I have decided to leave the preg. platy in the tank and let nature do its course as I do not have room for any babies.. next time i will do more research before jumping into it.

Hi, 5.5 is a bit too small for platies but a nice size for a betta. I'd move the platies to the 10 when you get it.

Also, you should read the threads on fish-in cycling to see what you need to do to keep these alive.

Thank you very much!! I have decided that I will move the platies to the 10 gallon when I get it.. until then, I hope they are alright. I have been reading quite a few posts on here.. lots of helpful information. Glad I joined this forum.

Once you move your platies into the new 10g tank I would suggest water changes every other day, as I have 4 platies in a 16 gallon and in order to keep my water healthy Im doing changes of 15%-20% every other day.
