My orange micky mouse platty has just had 66 fry, all doing well. They are 1 week old now & I haven't lost any.

I've been told that this is quite high for a platty, is it high or just normal?

Got 112 in total (2 females, 3 births), would have had another 26 or more if it were not for the filter sucking them in. I have made a canister type filter adapted from instructions on this forum. It seems to be working well and suction is much less so there should be no more danger of the fry being sucked in.

hi,
wow 66 omg thats a lot of fry, the most platy fry ive had from a single platy is 18, and 40 from an adult guppy, all the best with them, donna :)

Most my platy have had are 15 babies... 66 is a gigantic amount, would've liked to see the belly on her!

Well Livebearers can have up to 80 fry and sometimes even more. The most Livebearers I had from one was 43. 66 is alot. I currently have 71 fry from 4 births. If it was not for me not noticing 2 births I could of had about 150 fry by now. It is not easy having so many livebearers fry in a tank after they are over a month old. 61 of my 71 livebearers are over 1 month old. I have to siphon the bottom 2 times every day and change the water every 3 days 30% or sometimes more.

9 days old & ALL are doing well. The last time she give birth I only got approx. 30 but feed bloodworm (frozen & live), frozen brine shrimp, frozen daphnia, dried tubiflex, algea tablets & blanched cucumber as well as flake. I think the improved diet must have helped. Don't have much problem with overfeeding as it all get eaten with 112 in the tank (although the 66 newest are in breeder traps at the moment just to give them a bit of a head start before they have to 'play with the big boys' [3 to 6 weeks old fry]).

Will need the breeder againg soon as the little mother is getting big again and could bue due in 7-14 days.

Trying with kribs, dwarf gourami, dwarf honey gourami, apple snails & albino corys but no luck as yet.
