Hi,
Am now about to venture into the planted tank world...the last few weeks have been putting together the bits and bobs i need for a co2 pressurized system.. Lighting is fine (2.3 wpg) have also put 3 to 4 cm of aqua plus on the bottom covered by a fine gravel....One area i really dont understand is.. Nearly all the articles i read about starting a planted tank is to commence by planting the tank heavy.(Loads of plants) My tank is a jewul 125 .. the planting area now have removed internal filter is 80 cms by 35cms... How many plants do i need to start with in order to meet the heavy plant criteria...I know different plants will use more ferts and co2 than others but am looking for a approx figure so i know what i need when i order on monday....Also can i have a ground covering plant with 3 albino fish in the tank.. would they be o.k. with that or need bare gravel still...........Regards Zac

you will want about 75% plant coverage on the substrate, using plants like pogosteemon helferi and cryptocoryne parva at the front, most other common crypts some medium sized anubias in the mid ground, and maybe some stems in the rear.

i would buy tropica plants from pets at home personally...theyre always good quality at mine and cheap too!

i would go for as many fast growing stems as possible to begin with, replace these as the tank matures with the slower growing plants if desired.
