Well, seeing as though i'm starting up a well planted 15G, I was thinking about adding discus in the future, as I know they can be very delicated and prone to disease, especially in a new tank. I was just wondering if I could add any discus, and if I could how many? Actually using common sence I think I could only have one, but they are schooling fish and that would be unfair on it, nevermind. Unless anyone else has thoughts on it?

Sorry but you'll need a much larger tank. Can you really see any 6-8" fish fitting in that size of tank? Let alone a Discus.

Just because each adult Discus should be given 10 gallons of water each as a general rule does not mean you can keep one in a 10 gallon! A 55 would be a good starting point.

Well said. I continually stress this when people ask how many red belly piranhas they can can fit in their 20 gallon tank. Drives me nuts :shout:

No, I didn't actually know they needed 10G per fish, I just wondered if I could actually keep any, but didn't think I could. All I knew is that they grew to 10".

providing you keep water levels ok....aerate the tank...keep temp to about 84/86 ....keep tank clean and start with 2 1/2 inch discus...(my personal opinion is) GET some DISCUS ...don't be shy with em.they like gravel ,,rocks and most of all ..........company.they grow to 7..7 1/2inch but it takes a couple of years....you'll love em and buy bigger tanks.......i did!!!!! got 4 in my lounge... can't afford the fish.......anybody selling? 2inch or bigger,,,paul_newton1@yahoo.co.uk

no mate..sorry just no..15 gallon is far too small for discus end of.

i too have to agree with most of the other members 15g is to small especially when it its fully planted , i will be keeping 2 adults in a 18 " cube breeding tank which is about 25g but all that will be in there with them is a breeding cone and i wouldnt go any smaller than a 18" cube, just out of curiosity what are the dimensions of your 15g,

jagz

TRY JUST ADDING A SMALL ONE LET IT MATURE IN YOUR TANK 2 DISCUS WOULD BE TOO MUCH AND IN A NEW TANK ID LEAVE IT A WHILE AS YOUR WATER WONT BE UP TO SCRATCH FOR A DICUS

TRY NICKING SOME SPONGE OF SOMEONE ELSE WHO HAS A MATURE TANK AND PUT INTO YOUR FILTER FOR A WEEK OF 2 THAT WILL SEND YOU WELL ON YOUR WAY TO GET A DISCUS

BUT REMEMBER DISCUS THAT ARE FED PRIMA GO BIG SO U WILL HAVE TO BE PREPARED TO UPGRADE YOUR TANK AT SOME POINT DOWN THE ROAD

paul newton and benjo i hate to say it but id hate to be a fish in your tank, you cant be serious about putting discus in a 15g tank the poor fish woulded be able to move it self round let alone get stressed because its in a confined space.dont know where you get advice like that from specially you paul newton as this isnt the first time youve gave stupid advice like this and it was the same topic aswell so please stop with the stupid advice and let people on here who know what they are talking about sorry about the rant but its people like you that you find people with bad stocking, anyways on the topic why dont you try for something alot smaller like some shoaling fish the tank would still look good unless you can upgrade to a 55g then you could get a few discus :D
