How Many Hours Should The Light Be On?

I have six various plants in my 26 gallon tank. I understand they produce oxygen when the light is on and CO2 when the light is off (?). Sorry but I can't identify the plants.

I do get some ambient light during the day, not direct. Only enough to just see the fish if you come up close to the tank. Currently, what I do is 3 hours electric light in the morning, nothing all day (ambient light), then 4 hours in the evening/night.

How many hours should the light be on each day?
