Hi

I currently have a juwel rio 125 with a number of fish and plants running on a ehiem filter for months now ive been fighting a misrable mistery desease in this tank after a failed filter that dont seem to go with anything!

Ive lost one angel that had no outer symptoms just started gasping and died and now my other has sores all over him and ive bascially thrown every treatment at him offerd with advice from this site.

I feel at a lost ether considering packing up the hobby or restarting the entire tank again but how you go about this? I dont know what fish is healthy and what to do next I feel like giving them all up to a fish store or I know it sounds crule putting them out there misery and starting again!

Its ether my fish or health as there really stressing me out what was enjoyable hobby has become a nightmare of failed trements after he o-ring burst on my old external and sent this tank haywire.

Can someone offer some advice what to do with the fish I have and also how to go about steralizing the tank substrate and my ehiem filter without spending shed loads of money on new media and substrate as its eco-complete.

many thanks guys for your help I just want to enjoy fish keeping again but at the moment all its doing is causing me stress!

Half the time I feel like I could cry cause I have spent so much and looking at the tank upsets me because its all come to this.....

i feel the exact same way cept mine just started this weekend -ALL went downhill...

went out and spent $150.00 on my 65G tank on friday for various plants/wood/rocks/fertilizer to actually make it look decent for once ... got it all planted that night and it looked awesome, was really happy -

saturday morning my rainbows(6) were all covered in white cotton on fins n tails (columinaris, i guess) put them all in the hospital- main tank was totally destroyed and uprooted, very upsetting. then the danios(8) went all down hill that night and had to be euthenized this morning(sunday).. they were pratically layin dead on the ground with some white spots(maybe ich or bite marks cuz theyd always fight)..

now this afternoon(sunday) my black skirt tetras(6) came down with the columninaris as well.. covered in white cotton on fins and tails and some over their eyes... off to the hospital they went

added pimafix to the hospital and they arent looking too bad actually . no more white stuff at all cept one rainbow has a tiny speck on its mouth.. im scared to put them back in ...ill just try one at a time in about a week but i bet with my luck they will get sick again and will be a big repeat..

the main tank is a absolute disaster zone but i cant even be bothered to re plant the plants cuz i feel sick to my stomach looking at it and feel like crying as well, i actually did have a few tears earlier... the tank still holds a perfectly normal(but lonely now) gold gourami and a BN pleco.. the gourami doesnt know where his buddies went... i wish i could just get rid of all these tanks after this( 3 total running. a 6G betta and a 10G community then the 65G community, as well as the spare 10 gallon hospital) but i have all these fish( some sick) that i dont know what to do with.

never ever have i ever gone through anything like this... ive had this tank up for about a year now with no problems at all( no new fish added for 2 months) and all the fish/filters came from my old 33 gallon which was year old as well- all this because i decided to do something nice for the tank and me and i get hit with this crap.

Oh guys... I can completely understand the frustration and annoyance.

Before I return any fish to the main tank, I ensure that the ill fish have been looking healthy for at least 5 days, and during that time, I add a preventative treatment to the main tank.

Interpet do a general tonic, that reduces background bacteria and helps the tank to become a healthier place before fish are added back.

I think this has helped me prevent the re-appearence of diseases. Gives the fish a chance to settle back in and recover before the water gets back to holding any possible nasties.

Keep going...It'll be worth it in th end. xx
