Currently, in my 65 gallon I have a female honey gourami and a pearl gourami in with various other fish (I just got the pearl today). I've been wanting to get another female honey and a male. But now, I've quickly fell in love with the pearl, and thought ideally, she (or he...haven't sexed it yet) should have a companion or two of it's own. I know I have the space for the added gouramis, but am wondering if having six gouramis would cause territory problems. I also have three female bettas, but they never have bothered my honey, and so far have ignored the pearl as well.

What are some options for my tank? I'm really getting quite fond of these gouramis.

65 gallon is a good size and you should be able to house several gouramis in that tank. Most gouramis are territorial by nature, but you can add plants and other items of decor to your tank that will minimize aggression and allow your gouramis to coexist peacefully with the rest of the fish community. Pearl gouramis have a better temperament than other gourami varieties (such as three-spots, blues, and opalines), so you should be fine with 6 or so gouramis. I would caution you with the bettas, however. I know that many different types of fish can act aggressive toward bettas, especially gouramis.

I would definitely get the pearl a mate. I have a pair and love them, the male is my favorite fish. What other fish are in your tank?

In my 100 gallon I have 9 honey gouramis, 2 pearls, 2 banded gouramis, 2 sparklers and 10 SAEs. They all get along fine. :)
