Hi,

I'm slightly confused by the recommendations on stocking levels in a tropical tank, so wanted to ask peoples advice:

I have a 20 gallon tank, and I do 25% water changes once a week.

I currently have 5 platinum tetra, 4 guppies and 2 weather loach. I am planning on adding 2-4 albino corys and 2 rams.

Is that an ok amount of fish?

Thanks

Jamie

the general rule is an inch of fish per gallon and you want to consider the adult size of your fish. so depending on how big your weather loaches are going to get and i think rams are around 3 inches as adults? so yea just add that up and if you are at 20 or just slightly over, its fine. you also want to consider the level your fish swim on. loaches and cats are bottom dwellers usually and tetras are going to swim on top, etc.

that is a fine amount of fish dont worry about the inch per gallon it is a hihhly contraversial guidline used less and less now. However i cannot stress this enough cories do not mix with rams. in theory its fine but when you get them in the tank the cories will be afraid of the rams as rams are terrotorial and cories have no idea of terrotories. The ram may chase the cory out of his territory, then the cory will be afraid and then they will eventually die young due to stress.
