I setting up a new fresh water 125 gal tank and I would like to know how many fish should I start with to cycle my tank? Update: After further research, I'm doing a fishless cycle.

That seems like a small number of fish for such a large tank.

if you know what your stokcing with, simple pick out the strongest fish you want to stock with and use that.

I used a oscar to cycle my 90 gallon.

I would like to set up a community fish tank, so getting an oscar is not a good idea :)

i wasn't suggesting an oscar but alot of people use fish they aren't going to use in there final set up.

so pick a shoal of fish you want that are hardy and use them!!

You don't have to use ammonia to fishless cycle - a pinch of fish flakes every day will do it fine. Worked in my 20 gallon *shrugs*.

After futher research, I'm doing a fishless cycle. Started it 2 days ago.

Nice one, make sure you stick to it as it is worth it in the long run.

Any plans for the fish stocking yet?

Ben

No plans for stocking my tank yet, I'm taking it slowly hopefully it will not take too long to cycle. However, I know that I will get some kribensis and Bala sharks - two of my favs.

I frequently post this, but, you couldn't go wrong with a school of congo tetras.Just beautiful graceful fish. SH

Yes, they ARE beautiful! I just picked up 7 of them tonight! Would go nicely with the kribs, too.
