Hi, all, this forum is amazing, I've learnt more in the last few days from members of this site than anywhere else. I own a Juwel Rio 180l tank, I've read about the 1 inch rule per fish but even then I think that maybe that is too much for my tank, I have a large selection of plants and a piece of wood, any suggestions on how many fish I should keep.

Kind regards

it all depends on what fish u get to be honest.
the 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon of water rule is only a very rough guideline.
for instance, you could have a shoal of say neons, say 20 of them. with the rule this would need about 30 gallons of water, but they would happily live in a 15-20 gal no worries.
how many fish u get also depends on what kinda tank you would like (community, species....) in a community tank you can add a fair amount of fish, because of the natures of the fish.

i think the best thing to do would be to look around, see what fish u would like and post a list on here. someone will be more than happy to suggest wether that stocking is good, or which fish may need rethinking :)

hope this helped

But always, ALWAYS stock your tank based on the ADULT SIZE of the fish you want. That's why researching any fish you're interested in is so important.

Yeah, like achamfr says it depends of loads of things:
- How often you feed a tank
- How often your willing to do maintanence
- What fish you stock it with
- The size of the tank

However, I wouldn't recommend the one inch per gallon rule.. too rough in my view. I normally say stop when you think it's too crowded but you get some people try to crame fish in. I would just keep us updated with what you have and people on this forum are very quick to jump on people who are overcrowded so you'd soon know!
