Is it 1" of fish per Gallon? 240L is 63 Imperial Gallons so it's 63 1" fish, right?
or 6.3 10" fish? is that how it works?

Proton that is always a good rule to follow when stocking your tanks, but u really need to decide what kind of fish you want and then see what requirments those fish need, some may need lots of swimming space, or may be agressive so less would be a good idea, some may be sluggish not do alot and not produce alot of waste so you could maybe have A FEW more

what are you thinking for the tank?

The 1" per gallon rule only applies to small fish up to about 3" in length. Larger fish place greater strains on the filtration and need more room to live.

If you're stocking with smaller fish then it's a fair guideline.

It would probably be better to give us an idea of your planned stocking list so people can point out any potential problems. Sometimes it's not simply the size of the fish you need to take into account but how aggressive or territorial they are.

the 1" per gallon is worked out on US not imperial gallons. It's only a guideline though and really only applies to small slim bodied fish. Once you get over 4/5" fish start to have quite different requirements so it doesn't really apply.

There's so many exceptions to that rule though and other factors that no one can ever say you can have X fish in that tank. By all means use it as a rough guide but if your unsure then once you've worked out what you'd like, post it and we'll see if we think it sounds OK or not. Unfortunately with stocking it's soemthign that can be a little tricky to work out, you just need a knowledge of each fishes behaviour and needs and be able to mesh them all together to work it out. Like I said though, we'll all help if we can!

well at the moment i have 13 black neon tetra, 2 x angel fish, 4 khulie loaches, 3 x cory's, 2 x platies, 2 x gold guarami. The bigger guarami is nasty, he keeps chasing the 2 platies and his other mates around. I have approx 30 plants in there and it still looks bare...

yeah gold gourami's are quite agressive, platy's may not be the best tank mates for them :/ I think you've a little room left in the tank. I'd get another 3 cories as they like being in groups of 6+. If your gourami is beign a problem I'd maybe re-home them, then get 2 shoals (6 fish each) of smaller fish, like another tetra or rasbora. Oooh maybe a group of 6 congo tetra's, they're bigger than other tetra's but tey're lovely fish. I want some!

Ooo they sound interesting, I was actually considering re-homing all the big fish and getting a whole bunch of smaller fish not more than 2".

I do have a eheim professional II which i'm using with my fluval in the rio 240L, will that allow me to house a few more than suggested?

filtering is one of the issues to take into account when your considering your stocking, but it depends if you have any high waste fish in there. A decent filter in itself won't increase the stocking capacity, but if all (or most of) your fish are low waste, non agressive, non territorial and don't require a lot of swimming space (or you have a good variety of top, middle and bottom dwellers), then that combined with good filtration and yes you can stretch it a little bit.

There's a lot of factors to consider!
