just a quick question
how many fish can you keep in a comunnity tank 4ft by 12" wide by 18" high

TiA kay

Depends on the fish, what type of fish are you interested in?

22 neons 5 guppies (1 male 4 female )2 dwarf gourami ( male ) 2 small silver sharks 1 golden algea eater
1 male siamese fighting fish 1 angelfish 2 shrimps 4 ballon mollies 2 black widow tetra 5 zebra danio 5 pencil fish

that what i got at mo

1 albino pleco (died last nite ) dont know why

Wow, what a mix. First off, the sharks will get too big for that tank, they will need a new home. Neons are the natural food for angels, don't be surprised if they start to disappear as the angel gets larger. The sharks will easily eat them as they get larger.

The shrimp may get eaten by the angel, almost certainly will by the sharks. Angels & bettas don't get along too well, you may be able to pull that off due to the tank size if you aquascape correctly. The tiger barbs need to be kept in larger groups if you don't want them to get nippy with other fish.

If yu rehome the sharks you are already pretty well stocked. I would consider rehoming the sharks, and a second tank for the smaller tankmates. A 20 would work well for the neons, guppys, and shrimp. Once you do that you can consider adding more fish to the larger tank. First thing I would add would be a few more tiger barbs, this will help keep down any nipping.

well i just bought the sharks yesterday along with the others and the guy in the shop didn't say there would be a porblem with them all together as i have bought them all from the same place will keep you updated as they grow

guppies , dwarf gourami ? dont think they will mix in the long run with a male siamese fighting fish i might be wrong silver sharks need atleast a 4ft tank but is best to keep 3 siver sharks aleast :good:

they all are getting on fine at the mo so fingers crossed
as for the sharks the guy at the shop said as long as i got 2 not singles they would be fine the Angels & bettas are ok together as well so hopefully will stay that way if not then i will need to get another tank

i also reccommend getting another smaller tank for the smaller fish and maybe rehoming those that will out grow your tank and get some that are more suited to a tank of that size

They are sold in a golden variety too, scroll don on the link I gave you :). My uncle has a golden one that sucks the slime off his angelfish and my friend had a regular one that actually killed an angelfish...
They don't really like angelfish.

I remember about 13 years ago I stopped at a pet store and saw a neat catfish that just quietly rested on a plant it looked so regal and peaceful I wanted it. The 'expert' who bagged it for me assured me that it was peaceful and would co-habit just fine in my semi aggressive community. I was soooo pround when I released it into my tank and it assumed the same nose down position on the leaf of a plant. About 15 minutes later when I went again to oggle my prize a bala of about 4" the same length as this new cat drifted up to the cat. Iv'e never seen anything move so fast in my life, on quick grab and the bala was inside the SHOVELNOSE CAT. It took me 15 minutes of chasing with the net before I could get the cursed thing out of my tank. Until you have studied a particular fish or developed a trust for the pet shop NEVER take the word of those selling them. Scott

You've had some good advice so far from a number of experienced keepers who are telling you that the fish you've been sold aren't all compatible and that some will outgrow the tank. This isn't completely your fault so you shouldn't take it too personally. Everyone makes mistakes, most commonly relying on the advice from their LFS rather than from experienced forum members. Keeping your fingers crossed is all very well but the likelihood is that something is bound to go wrong with the combination of fish that you've quoted. I would definitely listen to the advice you've been given and return / rehome the fish mentioned. Then come back here with some ideas of what you think you want to replace them with. All the best.
