Hi,
could I get a school of 6 discus in tank of 220l with, or without cardinals/cories?

Thanks :good:

you could have 10 small discus in that size tank but once they pair off you would be best to remove all but one pair.

none of them could pair off, so yes

thats around a 55g i would say 6 discus try and get more 3/4" size would be fine in there. you could have rummynose tetras or neons/cardinals and some corys would be fine. try and get sterbair corys as they prefer warmer tempretures.

Good luck.

Bit confused, would 6 Discus pair off, or not?

Would I then have room for cardinals and corries?

Thanks

if you have 6 discus they will eventually pair off and you should get at least one true pair (consisting of a male and a female).
generally if you get 6 or more of a species you are pretty much guaranteed to get a true pair.
Once they have paired off you should remove the others to prevent fighting.

The tank is big enough for 6small discus and a group of cardinal or neon tetras and some corydoras catfish.
or you can have a mature pair of discus with the neons/cardinals and corys.

thanks,

that's a shame, I wanted to keep a school!

Didn't realize they would become that aggressive

im sorry but i completely dissagree, i kept 8 discus in a 75g for ages and none never paired off they were a shoal, when they were introduced there was squabbling to discuss the pecking order but they went on to live together for ages. i think you will be fine

your 55 would be fine for 6 discus some corys and tetras. IF a pair form you can simply break the pair by removing one or the other and replcing it with a different discus or you can just let them breed in the tank discus are not aggressive fish and they really would not do much harm to each other. although they have a temprement its nothing that can cause major damage in a shoal.

i would personally go for it!

I have to agree with DiscusAngel, a group of 10 is too much! Besides, if you do get a pair, they are going to get aggressive with the others, and pairs will need to be removed, that or remove all the other Discus...

5-6 Discus will be fine for a tank that sized, you can get away with more when they are smaller but again, removing fish is a nuisance...

Try telling that to the tank bread wild green I had a few months back that ripped any and all tank mates  I had to remove him after a few days, as he was ripping large chunks out of everything else in there, despite being half their size

Colin T's advice is good :good: If pairs form, judge the situation, and see if removal is necissary. In a large tank it may not be required, but in most situations it is necissary for the welfare of any fish not in the pair.

ok you do get the occasional evil discus but this is not very often occurance.

i still maintain the OP goes with 6 discus in the 55g and some tetras and corys.

Agreed :good: If pairs do form, monitor things...You should be fine with 6 discus with corrys and tetras
