I was wondering how many angels I should put in a 55g to spread aggression evenly so even if some angels pair up it won't become a blood bath or all the fish end up with ragged fins?

I put 6 little angels in a 55g .. they were about an inch or 1.5 each, and they constantly fought.. ragged fins all the time... was no fun. That's all I can really say.

A lot of it depends on the look you want. I have 7 in a 65, all adults, 2 pairs between them.

It works because of plenty of hiding places. The black pair like to spawn in the back right side behind the plants. Zebras like to spawn more to the left.

If you want a more bare look as far as decos, you could fit a good 15 in a 55, heres a 55 with double that, many are mature, ready to be sold in the next few weeks;

That tank works because of the quantity of fish, aggression gets spread so that no fish in particular gets picked on.

There are no guarantees, or definite yes or no answers when it comes to stocking adult angels. Either of those two tanks could go up for grabs at any time, needing a divider or relocation of fish, whether it be to one of my tanks or one at the lfs. This is something you have to be prepared for.

The only time angels will definitely get along is when they are small;

In that first pic where you said there are 7 in a 65g and they all paired up wouldn't there have to be a even number of them for them all to pair up?

He has 7 angels total, 4 of them belong to pairs, 2 pairs total. Not all of them belong to a pair, you must have misread.

I guess I did because I thought a pair would be when 2 angels paired up for breeding or to be friends.

Um I still think you may be confused, he has 2 pairs, two different couples that breed, the other 3 fish are loners and are not part of a pair..

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh now I get it. Sorry I was having a slow moment there.

But yeah, if I were you, feeding off of Tolak's thinking, I'd go with about 5 angels, and a lot of tall plants, aka lots of hiding, and make sure all the angels are bought at the sametime so territories are not set-up, and the new guy gets picked on. and if adding 5 angels at once, make sure your tank is very stable and cycled.

EDIT:::: Also, it wouldnt be a bad idea to get angels of the same size.
