How long after you put ammonia into the tank do you measure for ammonia and does it matter when you measure for nitrite? Also when doing fishless cycling do you want the tank cover on or doesn't it matter? Also does the tank need light when doing it?

You mean for fishless cycling? If you already know how much to put in order to get the right amount of ammonia for the cycling, then i guess you check the next time you put it in again. If you mean to check the amount you are putting in, then i guess within several minutes would do.

Whats the right level of ammonia for cycling? Also anyone know the answers to the other questions?

you should maintain it at around 3 to 5 ppm until a nitrite spike

then you can drop to 2-3ppm and then stop adding ammonia the day before you add your fish

make sure all the ammonia is removed everyday for at least 3 days though...
